Research Assistant (Level 2)

The C.T. Lamont Primary Health Care Research Centre (CTLC) at the Bruyère Research Institute (BRI) is a Bruyère Continuing Care and University of Ottawa partnership. The CTLC is seeking an experienced Research Assistant (Level 2) to work with 1-2 investigators and their teams in their research endeavours. There is the possibility of both full time and part time positions.

All positions are contract until June 1, 2015, with the possibility of extension. Please indicate in your application whether you are interested in full time or part time work.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Publications
    • Assist with the writing of manuscripts for publication (may have opportunities for authorship)
    • Tracking of papers in progress, being submitted, and published
    • Organizing, editing, and drafting correspondence and abstracts
    • Assisting researchers with literature searches of various literature databases
    • Use established, or develop appropriate, search criteria and maintain compilation of publication references
  • Provide assistance with grant submissions
    • Coordinate the grant submission process
    • Assist with grant writing under the direction of the investigator (literature review, draft methodology with significant input & direction from Investigator, create budget & justification based on grant contents)
    • Assist with the writing and preparation of grant proposals with major support from the investigator
  • Financial tasks (with assistance/oversight from manager/investigator):
    • Draft financial reporting to funders
    • Draft financial projections for small/straightforward projects
    • Draft budgets and justification for small/straightforward projects
  • Ethics
    • Complete new ethics applications with minor input from investigator
    • Respond to questions from REBs with minor input from investigator
  • Data Analysis
    • Collect, process, and coordinate data for small research projects
    • Conduct straightforward data manipulation using statistical software (SAS, SPSS and Excel)
  • Presentations
    • Using template, create posters for presentations
    • Draft abstracts for submission with input/oversight of investigator
  • Logistics
    • Assist with meeting/ event planning & preparation including: video/ teleconference/ in-person meetings, coordination of all logistics, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in a health related field or Undergraduate degree in a health related field with demonstrated research experience
  • Demonstrated writing ability
  • Bilingual (French and English) is an asset

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively establish priorities
  • Ability to communicate and interact competently and professionally at all levels within a broad, complex research environment
  • Basic knowledge of research principles, methodology, and procedures
  • Ability to follow data collection and management guidelines
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision and within a team environment
  • Meticulous, detail-oriented, and highly organized
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
