Expressing our solidarity

06/05/2020

Like so many of you, we are saddened by recent headlines. Tragic acts of violence are potent reminders that we all must address the systemic racism in our institutions and our communities.

As an organization, we denounce racism and discrimination in all its forms. We recognize the immense pain felt by Black communities, communities that have already been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic over the last three months.

Bruyère was founded on the principles of compassion and respect, with dignity at its core. Racism undermines human dignity; the very thing health care professionals strive to provide in our day-to-day work.

As part of our mission, we are committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive and respectful environment for all our staff, patients and residents. And while this continues to guide our work, we know it’s also important to acknowledge our unconscious biases if we are to have meaningful dialogue and initiatives on diversity, inclusion and equity.

We express solidarity with and support of Black communities and those standing against racial injustice in the U.S., Canada and around the world. It is what our founder Mother Bruyère would do.
