Remembering Mary—A Husband’s Tribute

On June 24th, Mark Lawrenson will be departing on a very special journey in loving memory of his late wife Mary.

Following a breast cancer diagnosis in May 2016, Mary spent the next two and a half years fighting for her life through multiple surgeries, and rounds of treatment which ultimately brought her to Bruyère for pain management towards the end of her life. Despite her positive outlook, and the hard fight that she put up she was unable to conquer the disease and lost her battle on September 24th 2018. Mark with his wife Mary smiling together in 2018

In tribute to the woman he loved, Mark will be cycling to raise funds for five charities that helped Mary during her fight against breast cancer including Bruyère. His journey will take him on a 2,484 km bike ride across Ontario this June, followed by a ride in September to mark the anniversary of Mary’s passing that will take him from Ottawa through to Arcadia, Florida to the winter home where they had hoped to create many fond memories. Unfortunately, due to Mary’s illness she was unable to spend any extended time at the home.

Mark will be blogging about his experience. You can follow his journey here
