Alan Wainwright joined the Bruyère Board of Directors as a community member in June 2017 and is a member of the Quality Management and Mission Effectiveness Committee.
Mr. Wainwright spent 38 years working in the natural gas, heating, ventilation and cooling industry before retiring in 2012. During this time, Alan held a number of operational positions including Regional Manager, Ontario East and Senior Manager, Technical Services with responsibility for budget compliance, sales and productivity targets, labour relations and collective bargaining negotiations. His quality improvement work includes participation on a number of national and international standards committees responsible for ensuring consistency in the implementation of best practices across the natural gas industry, as well as managing recall and safety compliance issues and working with appliance manufacturers on design requirements.
Alan is a volunteer Peer Counsellor with Spinal Cord Ontario, a role he has held since 2004 when Janet, his wife of 45 years suffered a spinal cord injury. He continues to act as an advocate for Janet in the management of her chronic health care issues and is a member of Saint Vincent Hospital's Patient and Family Advisory Council.
Alan is an avid fashion and street photographer. His work has been published in Zoomer magazine and in online publications including, Krowd magazine, Ottawa Tourism and Rove.me. He is a regular contributor to 20 York Street (20YS) an online Ottawa fashion and lifestyle blog.
