As a respected family physician scientist, you are successfully addressing the challenges with dementia that face today’s society. Your area of expertise is related to dementia and addresses aspects of prevention, early identification and assessment, risks associated with developing dementia, preventing deterioration or living with dementia. Your approach may focus on achieving healthy behaviours, optimizing health service delivery, or on the health care management of patients.
The successful applicant will join an internationally recognized academic organization at the heart of Canada’s capital. The Department of Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa has over 400 teachers who train 150 residents and 160 medical undergraduate students annually. At its core is a team of 13 scientists who lead research in primary care health service delivery and education. Research foci include equitable access to quality care, appropriate prescribing, optimized primary care organization and integration with other sectors, and performance measurement. The breadth of research spectrum spans the age and social spectrum. The Chair will further their established research program while engaging and extending the Department’s core strengths.
The ideal candidate will be: - Practice eligible family physician involved in training of highly qualified personnel including graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and/or residents/medical students
- Have a strong commitment to interdisciplinary research
- Dedicated to service excellence, with exceptional interpersonal & collaborative skills, and a strong team player
Family physician scientist candidate will: - Hold a scientific appointment at in the Bruyère Research Institute (bruyere.org/en/bruyere-research-institute) and the University of Ottawa Brain and Mind Research Institute (uottawa.ca/brain)
- Build an internationally recognized research program in Brain Health focusing on Dementia
- Produce high-quality, peer reviewed research publications in the relevant fields
- Hold funding from recognized peer review organizations (e.g. NIH and CIHR)
- Be committed to the mission, vision, values of Bruyère Continuing Care
- In addition must be a member in good standing with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario or be practice eligible in Ontario
