The Bruyère Research Institute (Bruyère RI) partners with Bruyère Continuing Care (Bruyère), the University of Ottawa and other stakeholders to conduct relevant and practical health sciences research related to improving the quality of life for the aging population and people requiring continuing care.

Reporting to the Department Head of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Research Assistant II is responsible for supporting the activities of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation researchers at both Bruyère Continuing Care and The Ottawa Hospital.

 

 
Main duties and responsibilities:
  • Literature Searches
  • Updating of CV’s (Canadian Common CV, University of Ottawa Uniweb CV)
  • Assist with the writing, editing, and submission of publications
  • Chart Reviews/Patient recruitment
  • Draft PowerPoint presentations
  • Create Posters for presentations
  • Support the development and submission of funding applications
  • Meet with the various members of PM&R to advance their research and scholarly activities
  • Possible assistance with educational events
  • Writing/Editing/Formatting documents software with various quantitative research softwares (SAS, SPSS, Endnote and Excel) or qualitative softwares (Nvivo, ATLAS.ti)

Qualifications 

  • Completion of undergraduate honors degree with research experience OR a thesis-based master's degree 
  • Knowledge of and experience of quantitaitve research methods (particularly stats) 

Preferred skills 

  • Previous experience with qualitative research
  • Systematic review and data management skills
  • Knowledge of data analysis software an asset (e.g. SPSS, r, SAS, NVivo, etc.)
  • Experience with spreadsheets - e.g. Excel, EndNote
  • Critical thinking skills and strong ability to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Excellent planning and coordination skills
  • Responsible and able to work independently and follow through with tasks
  • Ability to edit and submit manuscripts
  • Ability to assist with proposal development and ethics submissions
  • Ability to multi-task and work with multiple different researchers on a variety of different initiatives
  • Enthusiasm for learning and applying new knowledge to research
