Function Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Corporate accounting, the incumbent is responsible for the verification and data entry of invoices and related documents for the weekly/monthly payments preparation. The incumbent will also carry out all other related tasks and provide support for the Accounts Payable Department.


Major Responsibilities 

  • Distribute invoices for authorization
  • Verify authorized invoices and accounting data for accuracy and compliance with existing accounting controls & procedures
  • Monitor and assess expenditures in relation to purchase orders and financial commitments, and work with procurement/supplier and/or supervisor to resolve inappropriate invoice payment requests
  • Enter accounts payable information into the accounting software ensuring all invoices are correctly coded and have the proper tax code
  • Using spreadsheets, allocate and distribute expenses to the correct accounts 
  • Administers holdbacks and maintain accurate records of amounts withheld
  • Release accrued payables in a timely matter
  • Contact suppliers/Supplier website to pay invoices using the corporate credit card

Required Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education with accounting concentration with a minimum (2) years of relevant work experience in accounts payable with increasing responsibilities using accounting software and demonstrating computer proficiency or an equivalent combination of related education and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to record and process financial transactions using a computer within deadlines and with close attention to accuracy and detail as well as problem solving by mentally sorting, organizing or visualizing processes
  • Intermediate computer skills: Microsoft Excel (spreadsheets, formulas, tables), accounting software, accounts payable module, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word and Acrobat PDF reader
  • Ability to speak English is required and the ability to speak French will be considered an asset
  • Bookkeeping experience would be considered an asset

  • Effective oral/written communications skills in both official language, with courteous, efficient telephone/email manners
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team to achieve common goals
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively without detailed verification of accuracy by supervisor
