Student Research Assistant (Scheduler)

The Bruyère Research Institute (BRI) in conjunction with the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) is seeking a student to join the CLSA Ottawa team. The CLSA is a Canada-wide study that looks at health and aging over a 20-year period https://www.clsa-elcv.ca/. This is an opportunity for an individual interested in gaining research experience and interacting with the CLSA participants. Functioning under the direction of the Research Coordinator, the Scheduler will be the first point of contact with the study’s participants.

 

Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Perform consent verification procedures with participants by phone
  • Schedule and organize appointments for the Interviewers
  • Perform daily appointment reminders by phone or email
  • Communicate efficiently with participants and Interviewers
  • Efficiently document all relevant notes and communications
  • Proper handling of all clinical and other research materials
  • When on site, Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required by all staff (mandatory) and will be provided. Bruyère policies along with municipal/provincial/federal policies regarding social distancing and PPE will be followed.
  • Report all issues to the Coordinator
  • Potential responsibility: Assist the Data Collection Site to administer health questionnaires while using relevant research methodology.
Additional duties will be assigned as appropriate.
The successful candidate must have: 
  • An undergraduate degree in progress in a relevant field
  • Excellent judgment skills and ability to interpret and follow protocol requirements
  • Ability to ensure strict confidentiality of participant information
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to effectively work as a member of a team and independently
  • English (written/spoken) is mandatory
  • French (written/spoken) is an asset
  • Experience with vulnerable population is an asset
  • Excellent telephone communication and interviewing skills
  • Access to a private room to conduct the phone interview when working from home

Position requires contact with an aging population who may have medical illnesses and may require special attention. The successful candidate must exhibit compassion and be alert to participants’ needs. Training is provided for the administration of all the tests, data collection and other duties.
