The Institute is a proud partner of Bruyère Continuing Care, the University of Ottawa and others and provides solutions to improve the health and health care of aging and vulnerable Canadians. The Institute’s research focuses primarily on evidence, health system evaluation, brain health, geriatrics and rehabilitation, primary care, palliative care, and global health.

Dr. Claire Kendall, Senior Investigator with the Bruyère Research Institute, is looking for a Research Coordinator to join her team. Dr. Kendall is family physician and leads a highly productive program of research focusing on the delivery of primary care, particularly for marginalized populations, through evaluation of primary care delivery and measures to improve patient and community interaction with the health care system. The program of research has two main dimensions: health equity demand and health equity supply. On the demand side, we use both qualitative and quantitative methods to assess health equity demand at the population and for specific marginalized populations. On the supply side, we identify opportunities for enhancing the orientation to equity of the health care system. As the Research Coordinator on the team, you will have the opportunity to participate in multiple types of research projects, as well as being responsible for the administrative strength of the program.

The successful candidate will be granted independence and latitude in accomplishing assignments, and will be responsible for working with multiple research and program teams and community organizations. They will contribute to engagement, research, evaluation and administrative activities. This will include conducting literature reviews, environmental scans, supporting grant writing and submission, participating in research quantitative and qualitative analysis, coaching and supporting trainees, assisting in report preparation (writing and analysis) and using social media and other communication strategies to disseminate the research results. It is important to note that a key component of this position is to manage the administrative requirements of the team. This includes CV, meeting and event management and coordinating the finance processes.

Key Roles

  • Conduct literature reviews, environmental scans and other related research activities
  • Conduct interviews and focus groups with health care providers and patients
  • Conduct data analysis, both quantitative and qualitative, under the supervision of the Program Lead
  • Support the submission of various grants, including background work and logistics
  • Coordinate data collection, which can include community and organizational liaison to engage partners in the research process
  • Work closely with patients, community partners and trainees to build capacity and ensure meaningful engagement in the research process
  • Assist with the preparation of key dissemination documents including project reports, adoption and engagement tools, training materials, webinars and presentations
  • Prepare, supervise and/or assist with the preparation of key documents including project reports, manuscripts for publication, adoption and engagement tools, training materials, webinar/slide decks and presentations

Key Administrative Roles

  • CV management for a busy Executive
  • Manage tracking lists (i.e. meetings, communications)
  • Produce reports, including copy editing and proof-reading
  • Meeting management (scheduling, preparing packages, ensuring meetings are run flawlessly, take minutes and distribute meeting documents)
  • Event management, such as making travel arrangements, creating brochures, promotional materials and invitation lists.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a health care setting, preferably with experience working in primary health care and with marginalized populations (or equivalent combination of degrees/experience) .

Required Skills and Experience

  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods (data collection and analysis)
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and data analysis programs (i.e. SPSS, NVivo, would be an asset)
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Administrative experience, including accounts payable
  • Experience building and maintaining strong relationships and collaborative partnerships with community groups and individual community members
  • Exceptional communication skills, including writing, editing and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, manage overlapping project phases, and meet deadlines
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, including ability to adapt to a dynamic project environment, manage multiple tasks and work in a virtual environment (teleconferences, e-meetings and video conferencing)
  • Knowledge of and experience with community engagement strategies would be a strong asset
  • Bilingual in both official languages is also an asset (working language of the program team is English)
