PRIME LOCATION - ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIESThe Department of Care of the Elderly (CoE) at Bruyère is looking for dynamic and caring physicians to fill LOCUM positions on the inpatient Geriatric Rehabilitation Service (GRS) beginning in both June and July 2022.
These are great positions for practicing family physicians or graduating residents looking for a new challenge while earning a stable income.
Ideal candidates enjoy working with frail seniors, are comfortable providing hospitalist care in a subacute setting, and value a collaborative inter-professional team environment. Daily patient care on GRS can quite easily be combined with part-time outpatient or long-term care work.
Our setting also offers opportunities to participate in the teaching of medical learners of all levels, with GRS serving as the home base for core rotations in both the University of Ottawa PGY-1 Family Medicine and PGY-3 Care of the Elderly programs. Support and mentorship will gladly be provided by our friendly and collegial group, whose members are all family physicians with CAC’s in Care of the Elderly.
Located near the Byward Market at the Elisabeth Bruyère Hospital Campus of Bruyère, the GRS is a 50-bed interprofessional inpatient program for frail community-dwelling elderly patients that typically sees over 600 admissions each year. Our patients have recently suffered an acute medical or surgical issue leading to function and mobility difficulties threatening their ability to return or remain at home. This has been especially true during the pandemic, which has posed tremendous challenges for the region’s vulnerable older patients. Our program provides high-intensity rehabilitation to maximize functional recovery and restore quality of life, while tackling geriatric issues such as falls, cognitive change and polypharmacy.
Bruyère is the champion of well-being for aging Canadians and those requiring continuing care, helping them become and remain as healthy and independent as possible through innovative and compassionate care, research, education and advocacy.
