BRUYÈRE / THE OTTAWA HOSPITAL

This position works under the general direction of the Department Head of PM&R at Bruyere and Division Head for PM&R at The Ottawa Hospital and University of Ottawa. 
 
The Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Ottawa has 12 full time and 9 part-time members with a focus on Rehabilitation and MSK medicine.  


Bruyère is an organization focused on subacute care with 620 patients over 3 campuses. The Stroke Rehabilitation Program, based out of the Elisabeth Bruyère Campus, has 33 inpatient stroke rehabilitation beds and provides tertiary stroke rehabilitation services to Ottawa and the surrounding region. There are also outpatient and Day Program Stroke Rehabilitation services.

 
The successful applicant will join an established stroke rehabilitation program with both inpatient and outpatient responsibilities. There are 3 other Stroke Rehabilitation Physiatrists and 2 half time hospitalists.

The successful candidate will have experience in inpatient and outpatient stroke rehabilitation. There will be opportunity to participate in both inpatient and outpatient stroke rehabilitation settings. Other Physiatry related clinic opportunities may be available. They will be expected to participate in the Physiatry on-call rotation on a regular basis covering both Bruyere and Ottawa Hospital Rehabilitation Centre inpatients. It is expected that they will actively participate in the teaching of fellows, residents, and medical students. Clinical time commitment will depend on research and education career goals.

Successful candidates will be expected to participate in a variety of clinical duties as well as education and academic opportunities and initiatives at the University of Ottawa.
The ideal candidate will be Physiatrist with a clinical and academic focus in stroke rehabilitation. The successful candidate will be eligible to hold an academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer/ Assistant Professor or higher at the University of Ottawa. Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
 
The successful applicant must be licensed to practice medicine in Ontario; have, or be eligible for, certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and be a member of or be eligible for membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association. Experience teaching medical students and residents is required.
