About the Bruyère Research Institute

 

The Bruyère Research Institute supports investigators who contribute to a better, more responsive health care system that delivers the best care to patients, residents, and families. The Institute is a proud partner of Bruyère Continuing Care, the University of Ottawa, as well as other organizations and provides solutions to improve the health and health care of aging and vulnerable Canadians. The Institute’s research focuses primarily on evidence, health system evaluation, brain health, geriatrics and rehabilitation, primary care, palliative care, and global health.

 

 
Function summary 


We are currently seeking a full-time Research Manager to support the Equity in Health Systems (EqHS) Lab (https://www.eqhslab.com/). The Research Manager provides direct supervision of assigned staff and manages the administrative responsibilities of a program of academic activities (research, education, etc.) within the EqHS Lab and under the oversight of Dr. Jerry Maniate (Principal Investigator), including human resources and finance functions. The Manager interprets, implements, and ensures compliance with policies, operating plans and processes. In collaboration with the Principal Investigator, the Manager forecasts, plans, and prepares the program of academic activities operating budget; and ensures effective human resource allocation through recruitment, selection, training, coaching, and performance management. 
 

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Work with investigator and team to ensure a timely drafting and submission of publications
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of research projects with general supervision
  • Coordinate logistics for research projects, including requirements for Ethics Review, plans for data collection, analysis and storage, facilitate meetings, establish project schedules, timelines, and resources
  • Detailed planning, execution and monitoring of programmatic issues including: schedules, progress, coordination, deliverables, milestones and contracts
  • Develop and implement a sustainable financial plan to identify and secure new revenues (i.e., research grants, foundation grant, philanthropy, etc.)
  • Assist with the creation and justification of budgets based on grant contents
  • Track and reconcile expenses against budget and projections of future expenses
  • Establish and track financial projections
  • Establish budgets and justification
  • Draft contracts
  • Coordinate with team members to draft presentations
  • Provide support on the development and implementation of knowledge transfer
  • Correspond with external stakeholders and investigators
  • Provide leadership and support to staff
  • Supervision and training of graduate and summer students
  • Provide support to other project staff/participants as directed by investigator or other senior staff

Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree or higher in relevant field

  • 4 years’ experience including HR, finance, budget development and knowledge of granting agency requirements and sound knowledge of research and education principles.

  • Experience working in the health sector with knowledge of health professions education and practice with additional understanding of primary care in Canada.

  • Experience with different modalities of communication tools, from web based, social media, written and video etc.

  • Exceptional communication skills, including written and verbal (in English)

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, manage overlapping project phases and meet deadlines

  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, including the ability to adapt to a dynamic project environment


Additional Competencies (if applicable)
 
  • Experience using quantitative/qualitative research software (SPSS, SAS. Nvivo) an asset
