Function summary

Reporting to the Coordinator of the Regional Palliative Care Team (RPCT), Regional Palliative Care Consultant is responsible to provide clinical consultation as well as  information and education to health care professionals of the entire Champlain region, including the five counties of Eastern Ontario, Renfrew County and Ottawa. Collaborates, liaises and maintains good public relations with consumers and with a large number of health care professionals of various agencies and disciplines. Responsible for incorporating the vision, mission and values of the organization in the daily operations of a team.

 

Is required to travel within the assigned region. Assumes after-hours on-call responsibilities on a rotational basis.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, preferred
  • Valid certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Level C certificate
  • Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Certification in Hospice Palliative Care and the Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative Care (LEAP) training would be considered an asset
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in Palliative Care Nursing and/or in Community Nursing, preferred
  • Experience with culturally diverse clientele and awareness of cultural issues would be an asset 
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Advanced medical terminology

  • Proven abilities in teaching professionals coupled with strong ability in coaching and in mentoring
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, leadership and team building skills
  • Ability to work well under stress in a constantly changing environment 
  • Demonstrated effective planning, organizing, and evaluation skills to manage multiple clients, provide information reports, and take corrective action as required 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with diverse client groups with varying levels of comprehension and communication 
  • Strong ability to manage difficult conversations /situations in a healthy and effective manner 
  • Excellent ability to work effectively in both a team environment and autonomously as required 
  • Demonstrated effective listening and strong facilitation skills
  • Willingness and means to travel within the assigned region (must have a valid driver’s license and a car)
