The Bruyère Research Institute (BRI) partners with Bruyère Continuing Care (Bruyère), the University of Ottawa and other stakeholders to conduct relevant and practical health sciences research related to improving the quality of life for the aging population and people requiring continuing care.

The C.T. Lamont Primary Health Care Research Centre (CTLC) at the Bruyère Research Institute (BRI) is a product of the Bruyère Continuing Care and University of Ottawa partnership and is the research arm of the Department of Family Medicine, University of Ottawa. The CTLC is seeking an experienced, highly motivated, and detail-oriented Research Assistant to work with Dr. Clare Liddy and Dr. Claire Kendall and their teams on high impact programs of research.

The Research Assistant is responsible for assisting in supporting the day-to-day research activities of the research team. Key responsibilities include assisting in areas such as grant submissions, ethics materials, data collection and entry, daily logistics to ensure that project objectives are met, and other duties as required. Financial tracking may be required. An individual with a mathematics background and competencies with Excel is preferred.


Main duties and responsibilities:

Research Support (65%)

  • Assist with grant submissions: 
  1. Edit, format and upload documents 
  2. Preliminary draft of grant requirements for submission 
  3. Data entry and preliminary draft of aspects of background literature
  4. Draft methods with significant direction from Investigator or senior staff
  5. Undertake literature searches to support grant development
  • Assist with publication/manuscript submissions:
  1. Proofread for grammar/formatting & references
  2. Complete submissions and track status, arrange for reimbursement or payment
  • Assist with preparation for presentations:
  1. Draft abstracts for submission with significant input/oversight of investigator
  • Assist with data collection and analysis:
  1. Collect and input data for analysis
  2. Creation of simple graphics, basic equations and calculations for simple data analysis
  3. Conduct straightforward data manipulation using Excel
  4. Assist with recruiting and obtaining consent of participants
  • Ethics:
  1. Complete new ethics applications with support of Investigator
  2. Submit and track status of new applications & amendments
  3. Respond to questions from Research Ethics Boards with direct support from the Investigator
 

Administration Support (25%)

  • Support various committees; including scheduling, logistics and AV set-up, agenda preparation, meeting attendance and minute taking.
  • Provide support to other project staff/participants as directed by investigator or other senior staff.
 

Financial Support (10%)

  • Complete payment requisitions, balances monthly finance statements and tracks expenses

Required Competencies:

  • Highly motivated, detail orientated individual with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to communicate and interact competently and professionally in a variety of settings, both orally and written (in English)
  • Self-directed and able to effectively work both independently and as part of a larger team
  • Able to work with data to perform basic tasks such as data cleaning and creation of charts and reports; experience using Microsoft Excel 
  • Able to perform administrative tasks, including accounts payable, CV management, tracking of events, publications and other duties as assigned
  • Ability to conduct Internet and literature database searches
  • Knowledge of reference management software (Reference Manager, EndNote, RefWorks, etc.) would be considered an asset
  • Bilingual in English and French an asset
