The Communications Assistant is responsible for supporting the planning and execution of the deprescribing symposium that will be held in March 2017 and related follow-up from this event, as well as the ongoing day-to-day communications and dissemination activities of the deprescribing team. Key responsibilities include managing the deprescribing social media platforms, website and email, coordinating and facilitating regular Twitter chats, supporting the development of and finalizing newsletters, webinars, videos, and other dissemination products. Administrative support for the follow-up meetings and tasks from the symposium will also be required.
The deprescribing team’s web presence and other communication activities are its most public identity and often the first interface with internal and external stakeholders including BRI, Bruyère, the Bruyère Foundation, post-secondary institutions, potential donors, the media and the general public. Clear, concise user-centric communications requires intellect, commitment, skill, task-specific training and a high level of attention to detail.
Main duties and responsibilities:Communications Coordination (50%)The Communications Assistant will work under the direction of the project lead, Dr. Barbara Farrell, to support the Project Coordinator in a number of activities to build capacity for deprescribing to ameliorate problematic polypharmacy to improve related health outcomes and quality of life for older adults. The Communications Assistant will: - Manage social media accounts and email correspondence
- Coordinate and facilitate regular Twitter chats for the public and other stakeholder groups
- Assist with developing and disseminating quarterly newsletters and manage a list of subscribers
- Assist with filming and editing testimonial videos
- Update website content
Training and Educational Materials and Special Events (50%)The Communications Assistant will: - Support the development and dissemination of deprescribing guideline products (e.g. whiteboard videos, point of care app)
- Support the development and management of a deprescribing repository to capture information about deprescribing guideline implementation activities, use of deprescribing methodology, interested stakeholders, etc.
- Assist with development and delivery of a series of educational webinars for clinical guideline developers, health care providers, researchers, decision makers and other key stakeholders
- Support international symposium planning and promotion (support symposium planning committee, book space and catering, monitor symposium registration, complete travel bookings and process reimbursements to speakers/investigators, etc.)
- Schedule project meetings and symposium follow up meetings, prepare agenda packages and take meeting minutes
- Assist with preparing presentation materials for national and international conferences, manage speaker engagement schedules, and attend these events to represent the team as needed
This job description is not exhaustive. Additional duties may be added as the projects progress. Qualifications:- 3 year college diploma or undergraduate degree
- 1-2 years demonstrated web content management system and various social media experience
- Excellent written and oral communications skills including experience writing for various audiences
- Solid and demonstrated experience with creating and using forms, databases, apps, other communication tools, and Adobe tools
- Video and web editing skills and advance knowledge of social media posting and monitoring
- Ability to take complex research writings and translate into lay person language
- Strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions and act independently
- Ability to communication in both official languages required an asset
