MDS / RAI Data System Coordinator

Function Summary

Reporting to the Director, Decision Support, the incumbent is accountable for the efficient completion and data accuracy of the MDS (Minimum Data Set), RAI (Resident Assessment Instrument) data system; to provide education, support and data analysis to the management and the clinical teams to ensure optimal utilization of the data.

He/She works in close collaboration with the MDS/NSR coordinators as well as the entire department of Decision Support, management, medical chiefs and interdisciplinary teams of Long Term Care (LTC), Complex Continuing Care (CCC) and Rehabilitation programs as well as some corporate services, namely Health Records, Admissions and Patient Registration and Quality and Risk Management Service.

The incumbent will also:

 
  • Develop training materials and oversee training of clinical, medical and management staff at initial system implementation and for any significant subsequent changes in system functionality;
  • Provide timely & accurate support to clinicians and managers in their use of the system;
  • Plan, test and implement major upgrades or additional modules of the software; 
  • Upgrade system as required following bed closures or system updates provided by Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI)
  • Deal with any barriers encountered during the implementation of the system or upgrades;
  • Conduct analyses to ensure integrity of clinical data captured by the system;
  • Liaison with vendor and maintain knowledge of software vendor’s direction through material provided by the vendor and participation in user groups.

Required Qualifications

  • Current registration within a regulated health profession
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health/Business Admin. or in related field 
  • A minimum of 3 years of recent clinical experience in Long Term Care, and/or hospital experience of Complex Continuing Care and/or Rehabilitation
  • Fluent in French and English (spoken and written) 
  • Advanced computer and medical terminology skills

  • Demonstrated analytical skills, able to interpret clinical utilization data to the management team as well as clinicians 
  • Demonstrated interest in the implementation and ongoing management and support of RAI/MDS system and processes 
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, teaching and problem-solving abilities 
  • Strong oral, written, presentation, and communication skills 
  • Ability to work in a collegial, consultative and collaborative fashion with interdisciplinary team members 
  • Consistent ability to show conscientious attention to detail
  • Demonstrated expertise in the use of various computer software applications, including MEDITECH, Point Click CareMedecare, and the willingness and ability to upgrade skills as required
  • Expertise in data analysis and report writing 
  • Knowledge of software programs such as Word, Power Point, Excel, SPSSX, etc. 
  • Ability to function in self-directed manner 
  • Ability to teach using various teaching modalities
