Function summary

Reporting to the Coordinator of the Regional Palliative Care Team (RPCT), the incumbent is responsible to deliver Palliative Care consultations, provide information and education to health care professionals of the region encompassing the five counties of Eastern Ontario, Renfrew County and Ottawa. The incumbent collaborates, liaises and maintains good public relations with consumers and with a large number of health care professionals of various agencies and disciplines. He/She is responsible for incorporating the vision, mission and values of the organization in the daily operations of a team.

 

The incumbent is required to travel within the assigned region (Ottawa) and to work flexible hours. He/She also assumes on-call responsibilities on a rotational basis.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • Valid certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Level C certificate
  • Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Certification in Hospice Palliative Care and the Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative Care (LEAP) training would be considered an asset
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in Palliative Care Nursing and/or in Community Nursing
  • Experience with culturally diverse clientele and awareness of cultural issues would be an asset 
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Advanced medical terminology

  • Fluent in English and French

  • Ability to analyze, interpret and evaluate information of varying degrees of complexity from various sources
  • Strong problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to assess risks and benefits of alternative approaches in any decision, staying focused on objectives and considering both the short-term and long-term impact of decisions
  • Demonstrate effective time management and prioritizing of tasks in a dynamic environment
