Function Summary Under the supervision of the Manager, Heat and Power Plant, the Operating Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance and continuous supply of steam for heating, hot water and for the operation of all auxiliary equipment which involves heat, water, power, lighting and air conditioning. He/she is also responsible for all emergency calls after regular hours of operation and performs the duties of the Operating Engineer whenever required. He/She is committed to living the Mission and Values of Bruyère Continuing Care. He/She is committed to patient and resident safety, on-going learning and continuous quality improvement.
Required Qualifications - Secondary school diploma from a recognized institution, with courses in shop mathematics and blueprint reading
- Certified as an Operating Engineer – 3rd class in the Province of Ontario
- Four (4) years of experience in engineering building
Preferred Qualifications- Sound knowledge of preventive maintenance, building codes and of Technical Standards and Safety Act 2000, Operating Engineers, O.Reg 219/01
- Fluent in French and English, oral and written
- Ability to use electronic and pneumatic test equipment and evidence of motor coordination and manual dexterity with tools and valve manipulation
- Ability to discriminate colors to detect signal lights indicating malfunctions
