About the Ontario Centre for Learning, Research and Innovation in Long-term Care at Bruyère


 

The Ontario Centres for Learning, Research and Innovation in Long-Term Care (CLRI) build capacity through innovation and collaboration in education, research, and knowledge mobilization. The Program’s goal is to support long-term care (LTC) homes to improve the quality of life and care for residents through building capacity and promoting innovative best practices. The Ontario CLRI works with stakeholders to support research, develop innovative education, and share resources with LTC homes. We engage with people invested in the LTC sector.

 

The Ontario CLRI is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and is hosted by Baycrest Health Sciences, Bruyère, and Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging.

 

This position is responsible for coordinating the planning and implementation of communication and special event activities for the Ontario CLRI at Bruyère, including communications planning aligned with the Ontario CLRI strategic plan and the Bruyère team’s annual implementation plans, assisting with quarterly and annual reporting, website planning and regular updates/ maintenance, and planning of events or projects that the Ontario CLRI is leading or partnering for. The incumbent is expected to be proactive, self-directed and to manage a medium degree of responsibility. Clear, concise, user-centric communications requires intellect, commitment, skill, task-specific training and a high level of attention to detail. The Ontario CLRI web presence and other communication activities are its most public identity and often the first interface with internal and external stakeholders, including Bruyère, long-term care homes, LTC industry associations, post-secondary institutions, residents who are living in long-term care and their care partners, decision makers, researchers and the general public.

 

As with all Ontario CLRI team members, the Communications and Events Coordinator serves a vital link in ensuring accurate and timely information flow and maintaining effective working relationships with the Bruyère team, with the Ontario CLRI teams at Baycrest and at Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging, and LTC sector stakeholders. To be successful, the Communications and Events Coordinator must possess a positive, facilitative attitude and strong interpersonal skills. Additionally, the Communications and Events Coordinator has sound judgement and decision making skills, ability to set priorities, and a high degree of flexibility.

 

The Communications and Events Coordinator reports to the Manager, Ontario CLRI at Bruyère.


 

Main duties and responsibilities:

 

Communications Planning and Implementation (60%)

 

At a minimum, activities will be completed in consultation with the Manager or other members of the Ontario CLRI at Bruyère team, and where appropriate with other BRI members such as the BRI Senior Director of Operations, BRI Operations Manager or the BRI Communications and Events Coordinator.

 

  • Take a lead role in the planning and implementation of a communications strategy (short to long-term) for the Ontario CLRI at Bruyère, aligned with the Ontario CLRI at Bruyère’s implementation plan and the Ontario CLRI’s overall communications plan and strategic plan. The communication strategy should also be aligned where possible with BRI’s communication strategy and should follow Bruyère’s branding policy
  • Enhance the visibility and promotion of the Ontario CLRI brand by leading communication activities and identifying opportunities to showcase Ontario CLRI programs of education, knowledge mobilization, innovation and research both across the province and within Bruyère; Communication tools may include articles, posters, presentations, eModules, infographics, project reports, using the Ontario CLRI style and brand guidelines;
  • Create content and updates for the Ontario CLRI including the effective use of the website and other communication tools including social media. Collaborate with relevant teams to ensure the accuracy, relevance and timeliness of web and social media content while maintaining brand integrity;
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies and recommend/implement changes and improvements using current resources; Use web analytics and other data where appropriate;
  • Propose, create or edit articles for general consumption in a range of publications (industry magazines, industry blogs);
  • Produce and coordinate in-house photography and video activities;
  • Develop media releases  as appropriate in coordination with the BRI Communications Coordinator;
  • Participate in the Ontario CLRI Joint Communications Working Group.


Event Project Planning and Management (40%)

 
  • Representing the CLRI at Bruyère,  lead the team’s contribution to the planning, implementation and evaluation of Ontario CLRI events and Ontario CLRI contributions to partner events, including annual industry conferences; Contribute on behalf of the Ontario CLRI at Bruyère to BRI, Bruyère, or Foundation events, such as BRI research day or the Foundations’ Life Changing Day;
  • Coordinate and be the keeper of the Ontario CLRI at Bruyère annual event calendar including creating a detailed work plan identifying and setting timelines to activities;
  • Determine resource requirements and work with the Bruyère Manager to seek approval of these resources;
  • Support the delivery and promotion of webinars in collaboration with the team Knowledge Brokers.

Qualifications:

 
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills including experience writing for various audiences and in various formats
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (communications, PR), with 1-2 years demonstrated web content management system and various social media experience
  • Solid and demonstrated experience with creating and using forms, flyers, Photoshop, infographics and other communication tools
  • Video and web editing skills and advanced knowledge of social media posting and monitoring
  • Interest in continuous professional learning and staying abreast with the latest communication tools and mechanisms
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong team player Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to act independently where appropriate and seek approvals where required         
  • Ability to communicate in both official languages, verbally and in writing, is an asset
  • Understanding of the Ontario healthcare system, and the long-term care sector in particular, is an asset.
