Function Summary 

Under the responsibility of the Manager, Applications, the Programmer/Analyst is responsible for applications used at Bruyère Continuing Care, supporting users from diverse groups such as Finance, Material Management, Patient Care, Scheduling, Human Resources, Admissions, Pharmacy and Volunteering. These applications are used by approximately 2,200 users at three sites.

 
 

The Programmer/Analyst provides primary support on several key applications. Support activities include:
 
  • Providing end-user support
  • Analyzing and defining user requirements
  • Coding, testing and debugging applications
  • Configuring applications
  • Developing custom reports
  • Troubleshooting problems
  • Managing system updates
  • Writing documentation
  • Escalating issues to vendors 
The Programmer/Analyst works in conjunction with the network administrator to select and implement application servers, and to ensure that adequate disaster recovery procedures are in place.

The Programmer/Analyst also participates in the selection and implementation of new application software. S/he sits on committees and identifies system requirements and functional improvements through meetings and interviews. The Programmer/Analyst participates in the review of potential applications and the final selection. S/he works closely with the vendor, network administrator and users throughout the implementation process.

**This position is expected to last approximately 12 months. 

 

Required Qualifications

  • University or college degree in Computer Sciences
  • Strong structured methodology and business analysis skills
  • Client-service oriented coupled with an ability to work with a wide variety of people including vendors and clinicians
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with the ability to translate clinical needs and realities into system terms.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Strong report writing and problem solving skills 

 

Required Experience (minimum of 3 years)

  • Experience developing technical documentation and estimation of resource requirements
  • Proven implementation, configuration and report writing experience
  • Experience supporting users and working with vendors
  • Experience assisting users in testing and system upgrades
  • Experience with programming tools, languages and best practices
  • Experience with Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS)

 

Preferred Qualifications and Experience 

  • Hospital clinical operations experience
  • Health systems experience
  • Experience with an Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system such as MEDITECH 6.1.
  • Undergraduate degree in a related area
  • Strong skills in both French & English
