Function SummaryThe Director, Communications and Community Engagement is responsible for executing and further developing the strategic communications plan at Bruyère Continuing Care (Bruyère) and will lead and oversee a team of staff in the execution of the plan. The Director runs internal and external communications on behalf of Bruyère, in collaboration with the Bruyère Foundation and Bruyère Research Institute (BRI), and manages the Bruyère communications team. The incumbent is responsible for working collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders including staff, physicians, volunteers, patients, residents, families, boards of directors, Foundation, BRI and health partners, to proactively raise awareness and understanding of Bruyère and the role it plays in the health care system and in the community. He/She is committed to living the Mission and Values of Bruyère Continuing Care. He/She is committed to patient and resident safety, on-going learning and continuous quality improvement.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Arts, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum seven (7) years’ experience in corporate communications of a large organization, preferably in health care or academic environments
- Advanced computer skills
- Basic medical terminology
- Corporate communication in a large unionized environment
- Advanced understanding of current best practice in communications field
- Strong marketing/story telling acumen
- Seasoned experience in complex dynamic and shifting environments
- Extensive experience developing a variety of communications products for different audiences
- Advanced management of multiple social media platforms
- Experience in developing strategic communications plans and their successful implementation
- Experience in crisis communications
- Proven track record of leading teams
- Demonstrated experience dealing with consultants
- Demonstrated experience with media
- Demonstrated experience and strong networks with all levels of government
- Strong collaboration skills
- Strong commitment to service
- Demonstrated experience in the health care sector or academic environment (an asset)
- Fluent in French and English (an asset)
