In an effort to sustain COVID-19 initiatives across the organization, we are currently recruiting 2nd and 3rd year Nursing Students as Personal Care Attendant. We are looking for highly energetic students with initiative and drive, who look for an opportunity to gain valuable experience and develop their competencies through challenging assignments while working as part of a great team. Function Summary As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the role of the Personal Care Attendant (PCA) is to provide aspects of care to patients/residents as assigned by the Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN). The Personal Care Attendant plays a supportive role in the provision of care and the functioning of the patient care unit.
The incumbent is committed to living the Mission and Values of Bruyère Continuing Care. The incumbent is committed to patient and resident safety, ongoing learning and continuous quality improvement.
The Personal Care Attendant will:
- Provide aspects of personal care and basic nursing care.
- Promote the autonomy and the independence of patients and residents according to their functional abilities in the activities of daily living.
- Promote patients and residents physical and mental integrity in meeting basic needs.
- Recognize and report unusual occurrences, sudden change of behavior, condition and appearance related to the patient/resident.
- Provide for the safety and well-being of the patient and resident.
Required Qualifications- Current Enrollment in 2nd or 3rd year of a nursing program approved by the Ontario Ministry of Universities and Colleges
Preferred Qualifications- Fluent in French and English
- Knowledge of hygiene and cleanliness and infection control standards
- Ability to perform heavy work: moving furniture, etc.
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques
- Ability to perform activities requiring considerable standing, bending, reaching, pushing and transferring material
