About the Bruyère Research Institute

The Bruyère Research Institute (www.bruyere.org/bri) supports investigators who contribute to a better, more responsive health care system that delivers the best care to patients, residents and families. The Institute is a proud partner of Bruyère Continuing Care, the University of Ottawa, as well as other organizations and provides solutions to improve the health and health care of aging and vulnerable Canadians. The Institute’s research focuses primarily on evidence, health system evaluation, brain health, geriatrics and rehabilitation, primary care, palliative care, and global health.

The Research Associate will work under the supervision of Dr. Doug Archibald, Director of Research and Innovation, Department of Family Medicine, University of Ottawa. The incumbent will be responsible for working on Dr. Archibald’s medical education research program. The incumbent will participate in the conceptualization and development of the research by contributing partially or fully to all aspects of the research design, analysis and dissemination under the mentorship and guidance of the lead researcher. These activities will include the development of research objectives, grant development and writing, maintaining data integrity, and publication writing. The incumbent will be expected to have the expertise to draw preliminary conclusions from study data and assist the researcher in the interpretation of results.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the writing, preparation and submission of grant proposals with minimal support of investigator
  • Assist with the writing of manuscripts for publication
  • Draft abstracts for submission with minimal support of Investigator
  • Support the organization and function of the Director’s Office as it relates to the Department of Family Medicine, University of Ottawa.
  • Collect and oversee the data collection process while ensuring data quality and adherence to ethical standards
  • Analyze, and evaluate qualitative and quantitative data with minor/minimal support of Investigator
  • Develop and/or adapt specific research and data collection methodologies, protocols, systems, and techniques, as appropriate to the area of research specialty with minor support of Investigator
  • Develop, complete, and maintain submissions to the research ethics boards
  • Ensure study protocols adhere to ethical guidelines
  • Coordination of projects, including detailed planning, execution and monitoring of schedules, progress, coordination, deliverables, milestones, financial aspect and project status
  • Consulting/interacting with key stakeholders, including investigators, collaborators, project staff, and implementation teams, for clarification, input and feedback
  • Working closely with project team to ensure consistency of project objectives
  • Preparing or assisting with the preparation of key documents including project reports, data collection tools, manuscripts for publication, abstracts, scientific posters and presentations

Required skills and experience:

  • Master’s degree and 3 years relevant experience in a research environment
  • Exceptional communication skills, including strong scientific and lay writing, editing and oral communication.
  • Excellent working knowledge of research terminology and experience in health care
  • Experience using qualitative and quantitative research methods (methodology development, data collection and analysis)
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and data analysis programs (NVIVO, SPSS or similar)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, manage overlapping project phases, and meet deadlines
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, including ability to adapt to a dynamic project environment, manage multiple tasks and work in a virtual environment (teleconferences, e-meetings and video conferencing)
  • Bilingual in both official languages is preferred (working language of the project team is English)
