The Bruyère Research Institute (Bruyère RI) partners with Bruyère Continuing Care (Bruyère), the University of Ottawa and other stakeholders to conduct relevant and practical health sciences research related to improving the quality of life for the aging population and people requiring continuing care. The Bruyère RI supports investigators who contribute to a better, more responsive health care system that delivers the best care to patients, residents and families. The Institute’s research focuses primarily on primary care, health system evaluation, brain health, geriatrics and rehabilitation, palliative care and global health.


The Research Coordinator II will be responsible for supporting the DARE (Driving and Advancing Research Excellence) research team led by Dr. Clare Liddy. This team conducts a wide variety of projects and programs, with a primary focus on eConsultBASE™ research. We offer a team-based environment, with a collaborative, patient-driven approach to research. You will be expected to be proactive, self-directed and manage your tasks with a high degree of responsibility.


In this role, the successful candidate will work with Dr. Liddy and her research team to ensure appropriate administration and financial management of research projects. They will be responsible to ensure that project approval documents, legal documentation and recipient financial reports are completed as per organizational policies and procedures and that project administration information is processed promptly and maintained accurately.


The successful candidate will be highly skilled in financial and contractual management of research projects, preferably in healthcare research, will have a high level of efficiency with technology and be very detail oriented. We are looking for someone that has a positive, facilitative attitude, strong interpersonal skills, sound judgement and decision making skills and is able to be adaptive and have a desire to learn.

 

 

Main duties and responsibilities:


Financial Planning and Tracking - 70%

  • Develop, track and monitor overall project budgets including reconciliation of expenses against budget and projections of future expenses including requirements for research projects
  • Ensure project/program adherence to various funding agency guidelines
  • Maintain up-to-date information regarding financial and contractual compliance requirements
  • Draft service contracts and requisitions, in collaboration with the Research Operations Manager
  • Complete invoice requests and payment requisitions
  • Compile financial reports for funders, in collaboration with Research Operations Manager
  • Review and guide others in the review of financial and administrative management

Program Coordination - 15 %

  • Manage the research office, including the set up and maintenance of files, data tracking and storage procedures, etc.

Other Research Support - 15 %

  • Conduct activities to promote program success

Required Competencies

  • Degree or diploma in accounting, finance or business administration with 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Advanced budget management experience
  • Advanced experience in the administration of research and/or award mechanisms including grants, contracts and subcontracts
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, manage overlapping project phases and meet deadlines with attention to detail
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, including the ability to adapt to a dynamic project environment
  • Exceptional communication skills, including written and verbal (in English)
