Shepherd's Fashion FUNraiser - Another Great Success
Bruyère Foundation kicked off the holiday season with a beautiful FUNraising event held at Shepherd’s Fashions, Train Yards location on December 6. Over a hundred guests were dazzled with the beauty of Shepherd’s, enjoyed wine, and had their make-up applied by Burberry Beauty. Modeling the latest fashions included: Bruyère Foundation Board Chair, Fiona Gilfillan, Ainsley Malhotra, Patricia Kelly, Claudia McKeen, and Tammy Laverty. Escorting the models were the Bruyère Boys: Bruyère President & CEO Daniel Levac, Mario Daponte, Dr. Frank Knoefel, and Daniel Fernandes. Thank you to all of our guests for joining us at Shepherd's!
Sharing Bruyère’s Vision at Second Annual Life Changing Breakfast
On Friday, October 21, our Foundation team hosted the second annual Life Changing Breakfast at The Westin Ottawa. This fundraising event welcomed over 400 community leaders, supporters, politicians, and members of our boards, senior leadership team, physicians and staff together to support three key Bruyère fundraising priorities. Specifically, the focus was on elements of the Life Changing campaign which include brain health (Alzheimer’s and dementia), integrated seniors’ health and rehabilitation.
Special features of this fundraising event were two patient videos and live presentations. These videos gave the audience powerful insight to the incredibly dedicated and skilled work you do with our patients, residents and tenants. The event concluded with a special plaque and thank you presentation to loyal and longstanding Foundation supporter, former 580 CFRA morning host, Steve Madely. Thank you to all the ambassadors and staff who dedicated time to attend the Life Changing Breakfast and to recruit new supporters to Bruyère.
Ottawa-Carleton Pharmacists Association (OCPhA) Golf Tournament
On September 8, the OCPhA hosted its 90th annual charity golf tournament in support of Bruyère at the Canadian Golf and Country Club. Pharmacists and other industry leaders from all over Ontario were in attendance for this great day of golf and networking. The ongoing participation, support and generosity of the community have ensured this continued success. Proceeds from this event will help support life changing patient care and research at Bruyère. Bruyère Village Golf Tournament
On September 1, over 110 golfers travelled to rural Curran, Ontario to attend the second annual Bruyère Village Golf Tournament at the Nation Golf Club to raise funds for seniors housing. Contributing to the success of this event were the 80 sponsors and contributors who donated services and prizes to the silent and live auction. “It is with sincere gratitude that I thank the golfers, tenants, sponsors, and volunteers in making the Bruyère Village golf tournament such a success,” states Executive Director, Denise Rousseau-Pistilli. “Funds raised will go a long way in enhancing the quality of life for our seniors living within the Village.” A special element of the golf tournament were the two buses of Bruyère Village tenants who joined the golfers for the celebratory dinner.

On August 8, the DeWaan Foundation hosted its 16th annual charity golf tournament at GreyHawk Golf & Country Club. Through the previous 15 golf tournaments, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been donated to local charities and health facilities. The ongoing participation, support and generosity of the community have ensured this continued success. Proceeds from this event will help support life changing patient care and research at Bruyère and be shared with several other local charities. Bruyère Foundation extends a heartfelt thank you to the DeWaan Foundation and all the sponsors and golfers who helped make this event a success.

24th Annual Cushman & Wakefield Ottawa Charity Classic
On June 2, Cushman & Wakefield hosted its 24th Annual Charity Classic at ClubLink’s Le Maître de Mont Tremblant.This sold-out two-day getaway tournament raises an impressive amount of money for Bruyère year after year. This year’s tournament raised $50,000 for the Hospice Ottawa West campaign. To date, Cushman & Wakefield Ottawa has raised over $1.2M for life changing patient care and research at Bruyère. Bruyère Foundation is grateful and honoured to be partnered with such a wonderful, generous organization.
Life Changing Radiothon Raises Over $165,000
Thanks to the dedicated 580 CFRA listeners, CTV Ottawa viewers, and our generous community, on May 26, the Bruyère Life Changing Radiothon raised over $165,000 in support of patient care and research. Present and former Bruyère patients and their families shared personal stories about the care received while at Bruyère Continuing Care. Physicians, staff, and Bruyère Research Institute investigators shared expert advice on: Alzheimer's disease, stroke, falls prevention, the importance of health care data, care of the elderly, and life at the new Bruyère Village. “Today marked the beginning of new journey for the Foundation,” stated Bruyère Foundation president, Peggy Taillon. “We are excited to focus on supporting the incredible life-changing care and research offered at Bruyère and Bruyere Research Institute, specifically around brain health, integrated seniors' health and complex, chronic conditions and rehabilitation. On behalf of the future patients Bruyère will care for – thank you to everyone who made a donation and for supporting our mission of providing life changing care and research. We also want to thank our friends and partners at Bell Media especially the CFRA and CTV teams." Support for Life Changing Radiothon began live on 580 CFRA at 6 a.m. and continued throughout the day with politicians and Bell Media personalities taking donations at the Morguard VIP Pledge Bank. The Radiothon wrapped up with a live report from St. Laurent on the evening newscast on CTV Ottawa Evening News.
The Hills Were Alive at Broadway for Bruyère!
On April 14, over 400 guests came out to support Bruyere as Emond Harnden Presents, Broadway for Bruyère, The Sound of Music gala! Walking into Performance Court off Elgin Street, guests were immediately transformed into a beautiful setting to welcome our VIP guests. Guests were wined and dined courtesy of Beckta Food & Wine, had make-up applied at the Burberry bar, bid on silent auction items, posed with friends in the photo booth, and had cocktails from the Broadway for Bruyère ice luge. After the VIP pre-show reception, guests travelled to the National Arts Centre (NAC) on VIP shuttles just in time for the 50th anniversary of The Sound of Music. After the show, the cast hit the dance floor to the music from the Rebound Band! When it was time to go home, guests had their cars brought to them at the NAC and home they went, fabulous swag bag in hand. Life Changing Breakfast Showcases New Ideas on Aging Issues
Over 350 community leaders, politicians and Bruyère supporters packed the ballroom of the Château Laurier on October 1, National Seniors Day, for an inaugural fundraising event entitled, Life Changing Breakfast. This event was a platform to showcase Bruyère’s innovation and investment in research and health care specifically around Alzheimer’s disease and stroke rehabilitation. Support from the Life Changing Breakfast event will be used to attract the brightest minds in health care from around the world and leverage additional research funding to create a better health care future for our community and across the country. Funds will be used to establish focused research centres and best practices in the areas of healthy aging, brain disease and chronic illnesses.
