PRIME LOCATIONS, ACADEMIC PRACTICE ENVIRONMENT

Bruyère, an Academic Health Science Centre, excels in the provision of evidence-based health care and services for the vulnerable and medically complex, with a focus on persons who require sub-acute, geriatric, stroke or palliative care. Among other programs, Bruyère provides in-patient and out-patient clinical services in Care of the Elderly, Complex Continuing Care, Palliative Care, Ambulatory Stroke and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Bruyère is one of the largest health care centers of its kind in Canada and a resource for information on the special care required by the elderly, people with chronic and terminal illnesses, and persons having suffered loss of autonomy.

The University of Ottawa Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Partnership is currently looking for LOCUM hospitalist coverage on Bruyère Continuing Care’s Stroke Rehabilitation inpatient unit for:
 
  • July 12-19, 2024
  • July 22-26, 2024
  • September 9-13, 2024
 
A commitment to all dates is not required and can be split amongst several locums. Other locum opportunities may be available beyond these dates/times.
 

Work Expectations:

Bruyère requires the services of a locum hospitalist physician for coverage on the stroke rehabilitation unit. The provider will ensure the general medical care of inpatients admitted to Bruyère’s stroke in-patient unit for approximately 16 beds including but not limited to:
  • Admission histories/Admission Note - focus on medical aspects for care
  • Physical examinations
  • Ongoing general medical care;
  • Manage patients on a daily basis; e.g. Manage medical issues including diabetes management, hypertension, and infections
  • Discharge medication prescriptions and discharge summaries prepared on day of discharge
  • Work closely with consulting Physiatrists and PM&R trainees on the unit
  • Consult Physiatrist on all patients admitted for rehabilitation direction and care
  • Collaborate with rehabilitation team
  • Attend family conferences as needed
  • Daytime availability to manage emergency medical situations
  • Be available to treat patients from 8AM to 5PM weekdays

Remuneration:

  • No overhead cost
  • Funded through an Alternate Funding Plan
  • No on-call requirements

Reporting directly to the Physiatrist–in-Chief, the successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) Degree
  • Appropriate Certificate in medical practice from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
  • Registration in good standing with the CMPA
  • License in Ontario (or be eligible for licensure)
  • Bilingualism (French/English) would be an asset.
