About:

Larry W. Chambers, PhD was the first President and Chief Scientist at the Bruyère Research Institute and continues as Senior Investigator in the Institute. He is also Director, Research and Scholarship of the Niagara Regional Campus, Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine and Emeritus Professor of the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact (formerly the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics), McMaster University. During his career he has served as Scientific Advisor to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.


He has authored over 220 peer-review articles and 18 books, 21 chapters in books and over 185 papers in refereed journals on these and other topics. In 2021, Oxford University Press published his most recent book: “Increase your Brainability and Reduce your Risk of Dementia”, co-authored with Charles Alessi and Muir Gray.


Chambers’ publications report on his research related improvement of health care of older adults, population health and post-professional development. International journals have published his work on design, measurement, and evaluation of health programs such as organizational change to improve long term care homes prevention of infectious disease.


His work in universities, health charities and research institutes has enhanced capacity of governmental and non-governmental partner agencies by connecting research and innovation projects to policy and strategies. His expertise also lies in assembling, managing and leading interdisciplinary research and innovation project teams involving clinicians, faculty, and policy makers.


He maintains appointments at the Faculty of Health, York University, and ICES. According to Elsevier and Stanford University, Chambers has been among the most cited scientists in the world during his career.


Chambers is a Fellow with the American College of Epidemiology, Honorary Fellow with the Faculty of Public Health of the United Kingdom, and Fellow with the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.


Research Interests:

Dementia prevention and post-diagnostic support, dementia clinical guidelines, evidence-based medicine in medical undergraduate education, production of publishable lay summaries of research issues in medicine.
