Bruyère to require COVID-19 vaccination

08/24/2021

Bruyère will be enhancing its COVID-19 immunization policy, making vaccination mandatory at its campuses. Given that we provide care to some of the region’s most vulnerable, doing everything within our power to protect them is paramount. Bruyère plays a unique role in the region’s health care system providing specialized hospital care, long-term care, and assisted and independent living for seniors.

The evidence is clear. The science is irrefutable: vaccination against COVID-19 is safe and reduces the risks of severe illness, hospitalization, and death from the virus.

The Delta variant is significantly more contagious and now accounts for 90% of cases in Ontario. We have now entered our fourth wave and are seeing the number of cases increase in the province with projections that this will increase dramatically this fall.

We care for some of the most vulnerable and medically complex people in the region at our hospitals and in long-term care.

Upon weighing the risks to the people we serve and the benefits to our team members and the community as a whole, effective Tuesday, September 7, 2021, vaccination will be required for everyone who works, learns, does research, volunteers and is a member of the Designated Care Program at Bruyère. This will apply except in cases with a documented medical or human rights exemption.

We have created a support team to help Bruyère members who are not yet vaccinated get the information and help they need and work through the process to comply.

This approach is an enhancement of the vaccination policy that Bruyère has had in place since July 1, 2021.
