RNAO's First Spotlight Organization in Long-Term Care

15/5/2015

Bruyère is proud to announce that Saint-Louis Residence was selected as the Champlain Local Health Integration Network’s (LHIN) first Long-Term Care Best Practice Spotlight Organization by the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO).

As part of this designation, a coaching mentorship program will be implemented by the RNAO, providing Saint-Louis Residence nursing staff with the opportunity to receive free training at the RNAO institute so that the residence can implement best practices in the following areas:

  • Prevention of falls and fall-related injuries in the older adults;
  • Promotion of continence using prompted voiding;
  • Oral health nursing assessment and interventions; and
  • Risk assessment and prevention of pressure ulcers.

“Saint-Louis Residence has always been a place of compassion and hope, which involves one of our core values: collaboration", says Simon Akinsulie, executive director of Long-Term Care. “We are so proud to commence this partnership.”

The presence of Members of Provincial Parliament including John Fraser (Ottawa South) and Marie-France Lalonde (Ottawa-Orléans), as well as the attendance of Ottawa City councillor Bob Monette, are particularly noticed and their speeches reflect the importance of Bruyère’s mission.

Royal Galipeau, Member of Parliament (Ottawa-Orléans), also presented Saint-Louis Residence with a certificate of recognition to highlight its appointment.

Thanks to the introduction of this program, Bruyère will be able to increase the quality of care it provides to its residents and remain one of the best health care institutions in the province.
