Ontario Improving Access to Specialized Health-Care Services in Ottawa

05/25/2026

OTTAWA — May 22, 2026 — The Ontario government is investing $9.7 million to revitalize a Bruyère Health facility, improving access to specialized health-care services for people in Ottawa who no longer require acute hospital care.

“This investment in transitional care services in Ottawa will help ensure residents of Carleton and the surrounding region can access the support and care they need closer to home,” said George Darouze, MPP for Carleton. “By strengthening transitional care capacity, we are improving patient experiences, supporting families, and helping people recover in a safe and supportive environment.”

Through the province’s investment, Bruyère Health’s 132 bed Greystone Transitional Care facility will be upgraded to provide patients and families with access to the specialized care they need in a more responsive care environment.

Upgrades to the facility will include improved patient rooms making bathrooms more accessible, improvements to support spaces to provide better infection prevention and control practices, as well as emergency lighting and fire alarm upgrades.

“Our government is making historic investments to protect Ontario’s health-care system, ensuring people of all ages can connect to the care they need, where and when they need it,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “With this revitalization, our government is continuing to take action to ensure people living in Ottawa and across Eastern Ontario, have better access to the specialized care and supports they need, for generations to come.”

Bruyère Health Greystone Transitional Care provides care to people who no longer require an acute hospital stay, offering specialized services as they recover and prepare to return home or transition to another care setting. This ensures more acute care hospital beds are there for those who need it most, while decreasing wait times to ensure more people, no matter where they are in their care journey, are receiving the care they need.

Through Your Health: A Plan For Connected and Convenient Care, Ontario is expanding and modernizing hospitals and building new health-care facilities, making it faster and easier for people of all ages to connect to the high-quality care they need, where and when they need it.
