Bruyère to require vaccination for hospital visitors

09/23/2021

Updated on: October 20, 2021

Hospitals in the Champlain region are supportive of Ontario’s plan to require proof of vaccination to access businesses.

COVID-19 vaccination is effective at reducing the risk of serious illness, hospitalization, and death, and therefore protects people in our community, and our health care system from becoming overwhelmed. That is why, in the coming weeks, hospitals in the region will begin requiring proof of vaccination for visitors entering the hospital.

Bruyère is committed to doing everything we can to keep the people we care for safe, and we will begin requiring that visitors of patients staying at our hospitals be fully vaccinated, and show proof of vaccination, as of October 15, 2021.

We began informing visitors at our hospital campuses that this change was coming on September 23, 2021.

We realize that in some rare cases exemptions may be required. To request an exemption, please complete this form. Your request will be reviewed, and a member of our team will follow up within three business days. After October 15, 2021, you will be required to show proof of exemption or vaccination to visit all of our campuses. Please note: Children under the age of 12 are a guaranteed exception to this rule and will be able to visit as they do now.

Please note: that these changes apply to our inpatient hospital programs only.

We already have practices in place for reviewing vaccination status in line with Ministry requirements for our long-term care homes.

For our primary care centres/family medicine clinics or outpatient services, we would like to clarify that those patients, the parents bringing their children to appointments or people accompanying someone to the clinic who requires support are not considered visitors and will not be required to show proof of vaccination. Although we do encourage all people to get vaccinated, as it is the best protection we have against COVID-19.
