Small containers, big impact: planetary health in action
10/06/2025
At Bruyère Health, we know that caring for people also means caring for the planet. That’s why planetary health is one of our organizational priorities.
Earlier this year, we launched a pilot project at our Market Site using Friendlier, a reusable food container program. Patients, staff, residents, and visitors could purchase hot meals in the signature blue containers, with a small additional deposit. Once finished, they simply scan a QR code on the bottom of the container and return it to the Friendlier-branded box to get the deposit back through a mobile application.
Building on this success, the program expanded in July to two Bruyère Health sites, serving an average of around 500 people each day. Since then, over 900 containers have been returned, diverting 53 kg of plastic waste from landfills and preventing 153 kg of emissions from entering the air.
As this initiative continues to expand across Bruyère Health sites, it is just one way we are putting our planetary health commitment into practice, reducing waste and creating healthier communities for today and tomorrow.
