Assisted living services

Assisted Living Services for seniors is a publicly funded community-based health care program. It is for seniors who are either hospitalized or at risk of hospitalization. These services aim to help them successfully return to community living and remain safe in their environment.

The program delivers personal support and other services where and when they are most needed throughout the day, helping to bring peace of mind to you and your family.

The program is established based on the following principles:

  • Individualization of the client
  • Health equity and independence
  • Safety and stability

Assisted living services for high risk seniors program

Our Assisted Living Services team is on site to help seniors who require support with their daily living activities. Our dedicated care team will work in collaboration with you and your family to determine your individual needs.


We have 70 spaces available within Bruyère Health Besserer Place Senior Living and access is based on eligibility. These services are funded via Ontario Health atHome (OHaH) and are covered by your Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).


Frequently asked questions

How many hours of assisted living services are provided to clients on a weekly basis?


We can provide up to 12 – 14 hours of services per week per client in Bruyère Health Senior Living, and this can vary based on care needs. If more hours of service are required, the tenant may be asked to purchase services to complement what’s provided by Bruyère Health.


Our services aim to assist clients with their activities of daily living, which they may find challenging to do on their own.


We provide the following:


  • Personal support services
  • Toileting, bathing, assistance with showers, personal hygiene, dressing, and assistance with mobility
  • Assistance with laundry
  • Security checks or reassurance services
  • Medication cueing

The program is funded by Ontario Health.


We cannot provide:


  • Wandering diversion or detection
  • Two person assists or transfers
  • Total care including feeding
  • Respite or one-on-one services
  • Medical or nursing assessment such as diabetic injections or nursing interventions


In order to be considered for assisted living services, clients must meet all of the following criteria:


  • Be 65 years of age or older
  • Meet the eligibility criteria established by the Ontario Health at Home, Assisted Living Services policy and guidelines
  • Be able to remain safely in their own home or apartment in-between check-ins
  • Reside within the Bruyère Health Senior Living in Orleans
  • Be able to direct their own service needs or have a substitute decision maker to assist them
