Bruyère helps kick off the University of Ottawa’s Brain Health Awareness Week!

10/01/2019

On September 30, Bruyère’s Heidi Sveistrup, PhD, and Frank Knoefel, MD, helped kick off this year’s Brain Health Awareness Week. Brain Health Awareness Week (BHAW) is a week-long, annual event in Ottawa, hosted by the University of Ottawa Brain and Mind Research Institute (uOBMRI). Through public engagement, open discussions and knowledge promotion, BHAW aims to advance public awareness about brain health.

Heidi Sveistrup, PhD, provided an overview of the Memory Collaborative—a joint fundraising initiative between Bruyère and the uOBMRI. She then introduced Frank Knoefel, MD, and Nafissa Ismail, PhD, who both spoke on the connections between memory and navigation. The evening then came to a close after Dr. Antoine Hakim gave a keynote presentation on the best ways to help prevent dementia.

Tonight, presenters will speak to an important question: Can the brain repair itself after stroke? Register to attend in person or watch the livestream.
