Bruyère Photoderm Clinic celebrates 40 years of service

11/02/2018

On October 31, 2018, Bruyère Photoderm Clinic held an event to celebrate 40 years of service. Bruyère President and CEO, Guy Chartrand, shared a brief history of the clinic.

Bruyère’s Photoderm clinic was founded in 1978, as the Psoriasis Day Centre in a location on St. Patrick Street in Ottawa. As the name suggests, its vision at that time was to provide ambulatory services for patients with psoriasis to avoid the necessity of being admitted to acute care for treatment. In August 1981, the clinic moved to the Élisabeth Bruyère hospital site.

Guests heard from a longtime patient about the impact that photoderm treatments and staff in the clinic have made on his physical and emotional wellbeing. Dr. Jean-Pierre Degroseilliers, the original founder of the clinic, joined with Dr. Steven Glassman, the clinic’s current Medical Director, to unveil a plaque to commemorate this milestone for the clinic. Dr. Degroseilliers noted that were it not for the efforts of Sister Gilberte Paquette, first CEO of Élisabeth Bruyère Health Centre (now Bruyère Continuing Care), who identified the need for this service in the community, the clinic might not exist today.

Listen to Dr. Steven Glassman, Medical Director of the Bruyère Photoderm Clinic, and Manon Clément, Manager of Outpatient Programs at Bruyère, talk with CFRA host, Rob Snow, about the clinic’s programs and services.
