Culture Days event at Bruyère wins accessibility spotlight award

11/10/2022

Bruyère and Radical Connections have been recognized for events hosted in conjunction with Ontario Culture Days this fall.

Our concert in the atrium at Saint-Vincent Hospital has been awarded Ontario Culture Days’ spotlight award for inclusive programming this year.

Many barriers exist that prevent people from participating in arts and culture. The accessibility award category recognizes those who create inclusive programming by putting equity and accessibility first.

The performers from our concert at Saint-Vincent Hospital are part of Radical Connections’ Unmasked Connections program. This program also facilitates virtual one-on-one performances and concerts for residents in our long-term care homes.

Thanks to cj fleury, the inaugural artist under Bruyère’s Carol Wiebe Artist-In-Residence Program, we first participated in Ontario Culture Days in 2020. We look forward to a continued partnership with Radical Connections as we plan future Culture Days events across our campuses.

Thank you to the curators and organizers at Radical Connections and the patients, staff, artists and performers who participated in Culture Days events at Bruyère.

Culture Days events at Bruyère were also made possible with the kind support of the Arts Network Ottawa, the City of Ottawa, the Eldercare Foundation of Ottawa, the Ottawa Arts Mentorship Program, the Ontario Arts Council, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, and Bruyère Academic Medical Organization.
