Statement on protests in Ottawa

01/28/2022

Update: February 4, 2022

Given the ongoing protests and disruptions in the downtown core, we want to re-affirm that we are taking all the necessary steps to ensure that there are no disruptions that would affect patient or resident care. Our teams are monitoring the situation closely and working collaboratively with the City of Ottawa, Ottawa Police and the regional emergency response group.

Living and working in Ottawa, we are all familiar with protests and demonstrations. This one feels different, has been longer, and there is far more uncertainty. We know the current demonstrations have added an extra layer of stress that no one needed.

We want to ensure our staff know how truly appreciated they are by hospital leadership and this community. We recognize how frustrating and disheartening these protests are, particularly when they have been working so hard, for so long, under such difficult conditions.

Thank you to all of our staff. We know it may be harder for you to get to work with traffic and other disruptions; we appreciate your commitment to the people we care for and each other.
