Radical Connections concert on May 18th at 2:30pm in the Atrium featuring Fanny Marks and Empress Nyiringango

Cellist Fanny Marks earned her Bachelor of Music from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (London), her postgraduate degree in music from the Royal Academy of Music (London) and her Performance Diploma from the University of Indiana (USA).

 
Fanny has toured with orchestras and chamber music groups in concert halls and theatres across Europe and the Americas. She has a passion for working with kids through music theatre, children’s operas, summer camps, workshops for disabled kids or low-income families.

 
 

Fanny moved to Quebec in September 2014 and started her own cello teaching studio in Wakefield. Since summer 2015, she has been a regular substitute at the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa.


Empress Nyiringango is a passionate, dedicated Rwandan Canadian singer-songwriter who showcases a unique blend of Afro-blues, jazz, soul, and Rwandan folk music. She sings in Kinyarwanda, Swahili, French and English. She earned a master’s degree in Education in 2020 at the University of Ottawa.


Empress has performed in Rwanda, Egypt, Kenya, Congo, and Canada. She has also participated in international events in her hometown Ottawa where she headlined the Women Art festival at the Arts Gallery in 2019 and the Cultural Pluralism in the Arts Movement Ontario Showcase in Parkdale 2021. Empress Nyiringango released her debut album Resilience in 2016 and EP Ishimwe (gratitude) in 2019. Her second album Ubuntu was released in 2022.
