Bruyère’s role as an academic organization

Bruyère is one of 24 academic hospitals in Ontario.

As an academic hospital, Bruyère provides advanced evidence-based patient and resident care and services, trains the next generation of health professionals, conducts leading edge research, drives change as a system leader, and fuels innovation. Strengthening our academic mandate is essential to advancing care, research and teaching as we move into the future.

Last year alone, Bruyère provided training to more than 1,000 students including student doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals.

Every teaching experience serves as a learning opportunity for the student, but also allows the supervisor to stay current on the latest clinical practices and develop their adult learning skills, all of which translates into providing excellence in care to our patients and residents.

In addition to offering teaching experiences inside the hospital setting, Bruyère also shares its expertise in the community. In November 2017, we hosted an international conference attended by over 240 delegates and featuring 34 exhibitors of health and wellness products and services.

The Humanizing Health Care Conference brought together community specialists in aging, health, wellness and person centered care and included a learning day on the subject of integrating holistic approaches to curriculum and practice which was attended by 80 health students.

The Bruyère Research Institute is Bruyère’s research and innovation arm. Researchers and their teams are committed to finding the best evidence to support health and care of people locally, nationally and globally.
