Function summary

Reporting to the Manager, Heat & Power Plant, the incumbent is responsible for the supervision of the safe and efficient operation of the Central Heating Plant by operating and maintaining steam distribution, heating and ventilation systems supplying hospital buildings. Has a secondary responsibility of Fire Safety Officer to assist in the management of an effective fire prevention program. Supervises, and coordinates the daily activities of both maintenance and shift engineers. Schedules shifts and boiler operation. Coordinates programs for new requirements and major maintenance projects. Ensures that safety regulations, policies are met and an efficient operation is maintained. Through audits and checks, ensures that workmanship meets standards and that all safety regulations, policies and procedures are complied with.

Required qualifications
 
  • Three (3) year Community college diploma in building systems
  • Three (3) years of experience in building and plant operation and building automation
  • experience in a unionized environment in a supervisory role
  • Fluent in French and English, spoken and written

Preferred qualifications

  • Operating Engineer Certificate or associated with building systems / operations
  • Knowledge of building and ventilation systems
  • Computer knowledge with different software (Microsoft Office) and building automation systems
