Bruyère, a Catholic academic
healthcare organization inspired by the values and
legacy of the Sisters of
Charity, is recruiting volunteers to join its
Board of Directors as directors
and community representatives.

About Bruyère –
Together, making each life better
Bruyère plays a vital role in the
National Capital Region’s healthcare
system. Our specialized
hospitals, family medicine centres, long-term care
homes, and supportive and
independent living for older adults are serving
over 1000 people each day
across our four campuses in the Byward Market,
Centretown, Old Ottawa South and
Orleans.
About the Board of Directors
Our members care deeply about their community and
believe we can work together with partners across
the health care system to
ensure individuals receive timely and appropriate
access to care when they need
it.
Bruyère’s Board of Directors is
responsible for overall governance of the
organization including oversight of
strategic direction, quality of care and
stewardship of resources. The Board is
comprised of 16 directors – 15 members
from the broader community,
one representative from the University of Ottawa,
and four ex-officio members.
Directors and community representatives are
elected for a one or two-year term with
eligibility for re election up to a
maximum of eight years.
Skill and experience
We seek to fill vacancies for three directors and
several community representatives. Community
representatives serve as voting
members on committees and attend board meetings in
a non-voting capacity. Ideal
candidates are committed to
Bruyère’s mission to provide
holistic care, respecting the diversity of all. We
welcome applicants who
reflect the diversity and characteristics of our
teams and the people we serve.
Candidates should have sound knowledge of the
healthcare environment or have played an active
leadership role in their
community with experience in one or more of areas
below. Previous board or
governance experience is an asset.

If selected as a candidate, the application
process includes a face-to-face interview. As a
new director and community
representative, you will receive a comprehensive
orientation and be assigned a
mentor to guide your growth and development.
