Function Summary

The Recreation Therapist is responsible for completing an assessment in the area of leisure functioning (leisure skills, leisure attitude, leisure awareness and barriers to participation), to analyze the results and to develop a plan of intervention reflective of the resident’s goals, beliefs and perspectives;

As a member of Saint-Louis Residence, the Therapist is responsible for the design and delivery of Therapeutic Recreation Services (Therapy, Leisure Education and Recreation Participation) to our residents. The Therapist is a member of an interprofessional team and provides clinical intervention in accordance with the standards of practice of the profession. The position of Recreation Therapist reports to the Coordinator of Therapeutic Services in Long-term care on any issues of interprofessional practice;

Required Qualifications

  • A four (4) year University degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies or a three (3) year related degree with a post graduate diploma in Therapeutic Recreation
  • Registered member of Therapeutic Recreation Ontario
  • Six (6) months of experience working in a relevant position in a long-term care environment
  • Health Care Provider (HCP)- CPR “C” and AED
  • Fluent in French and English

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including superior ability to connect with individuals living with dementia
  • Knowledge of Point Click Care and MDS coding and requirements is considered an asset
  • Strong focus on resident, their experience and quality of life
  • Smart Serve certified
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Basic Computer skills
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
