About:
Dr. Fabian Schwarz is a family physician, rural generalist, and clinician‑scholar whose career spans Canada and Australia, with recognized contributions to medical education, rural and remote health, regulatory medicine, and primary care innovation. He brings advanced competencies in comprehensive family medicine, emergency care, public health, and health‑system quality improvement, shaped through more than a decade of service across geographically isolated communities and complex clinical environments.
Dr. Schwarz serves as a Quality Coach with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and as ePortfolio Coach with the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Medicine, promoting reflective practice and quality‑improvement. As the Primary Care Physician for the Prince of Wales Retirement Home, he implements system‑level initiatives to reduce unnecessary and potentially harmful emergency department transfers. Nationally, he contributes to infectious disease policy as a Health Canada Medical Evaluator and representative to the National Advisory Committees.
Internationally, Dr. Schwarz has held senior roles in rural and remote medicine, including Clinical Co‑Director of Primary Care for the Northern Territory Department of Health and Flight Doctor with the Royal Flying Doctor Service, coordinating aeromedical retrievals across vast outback regions. His academic appointments at the University of Ottawa, University of British Columbia, and University of Sydney reflect a sustained commitment to learner assessment, curriculum development, reflective practice, and competency‑based medical education.
His scholarly work includes peer‑reviewed publications, national educational modules, narrative medicine, and contributions to clinical guidelines. Across all roles, Dr. Schwarz is driven by a commitment to advancing family medicine, strengthening primary care systems, and improving health outcomes for underserved populations.
