About:
Dr. Kamila Premji is a family physician practicing comprehensive primary care in Ottawa. She is an Assistant Professor with the University of Ottawa, where she holds the Faculty of Medicine Tier 2 Clinical Research Chair in Universal Access to Comprehensive Primary Care. She is also a PSI Knowledge Translation Fellow. To date, she has been a Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on funded projects totaling over $29 million in research funding. Inspired by her clinical practice, her research focuses on primary care access, care continuity, and health system integration.
Dr. Premji is committed to mobilizing research into policy, communities, and clinical practice. Her policy engagement has included service on provincial advisory tables and committees, including the Ontario Minister of Health’s Primary Care Advisory Table, as well as invited briefings on primary care challenges to senior decision-makers at municipal, provincial, and federal levels. She uses a range of knowledge translation approaches to broaden the reach and impact of her research, including partnerships with professional organizations, traditional academic dissemination, public and policy-facing communications, and extensive media engagement. Her research on access to primary care and the family physician workforce has been widely cited in the media, used by policymakers and professional organizations, and referenced in Ontario Legislature.
