Function Summary


The Food Service Attendant accomplishes the general tasks of the department, more specifically those tasks associated with: the preparation of food trays according to each individual menu including the proper portion of each item requested on the menu and the cleaning of the work area (the incumbent will be required to work at an average temperature of approximately 14 degrees C); the distribution of patient trays at both breakfast and lunch; responsible for stocking Tube feeding on units and delivery of day snacks to patients/residents; the distribution of food carts as well as cleaning of food carts and trays in the dish room area and using a dishwasher; collecting soiled trays and the distribution of snacks, replenishing kitchenettes on units; the preparation of bulk foods for tray line assembly; responsible for completing the inventories, the reception and storage of goods in the designated areas.

Required Qualifications

  • Secondary school diploma
  • Food handler's certificate from a recognized institution
  • Ability to perform activities requiring considerable standing, walking, bending, reaching, pulling/pushing and transferring equipment and material

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification (CPR) - level C
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to demonstrate a respectful, patient and compassionate behavior towards patients/residents
  • Capacity to provide quality client-centered service
