The Bruyère Research Institute (BRI) partners with Bruyère Continuing Care (Bruyère), the University of Ottawa and other stakeholders to conduct relevant and practical health sciences research related to improving the quality of life for the aging population and people requiring continuing care.

In 2013, the Living with HIV (LHIV) Innovation Team (www.lhiv.ca) was awarded a community-based primary health care team grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research to support its goal of advancing primary healthcare for persons living with chronic HIV in Canada. The team includes key researchers, policy makers, health professionals, trainees, HIV clinic managers and community networks, as well as persons with lived experience.

We are looking for an experienced individual to assist in conducting mixed methods research, interpret both qualitative and quantitative data, and develop and write relevant scientific manuscripts and grants.

The Research Associate II will be familiar with research methods and software and will have the ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Evidence Summaries, Grants & Publications

  • Contributing to the writing of evidence reviews and manuscripts for publication
  • Routinely presenting research findings to a variety of lay and scientific audiences, at conferences/symposia on behalf of the investigator 
  • Drafting abstracts for submission with minimal support of Investigator
  • Writing, preparing and submitting grant proposals with minimal support of investigator

Data Collection & Analysis

  • Conducting systematic reviews with research librarian, research assistants and other staff 
  • Collaborating with Investigator by providing input to develop appropriate quantitative data analysis plans
  • Applying scientific rigour to select from the most appropriate methodological options
  • Overseeing the collection of data while ensuring data quality
  • Analyzing and evaluating quantitative data 
  • Developing and/or adapting specific research and data collection methodologies, protocols, systems, and techniques, as appropriate, to the area of research specialty with minor support of Investigator

Other Research Support

  • Participating in the development and conceptualization for projects
  • Providing support on the development and implementation of knowledge transfer 
  • Leading the development and implementation of data collection & dissemination tools/instruments
  • Participating and leading novel knowledge dissemination activities (for persons with lived experience, researchers, decision and policy-makers)
  • Completing new ethics applications & amendments with minimal/no support of Investigator
  • Responding to questions from Research Ethics Boards 

 Administrative Support

  • Provide oversight to students conducting data analysis to ensure program’s data requirements are met; work closely with Research Manager to ensure activities align to schedule
  • Recommending, implementing, and administering methods and procedures to enhance operations of the project
  • Providing support to other project staff/participants as directed by investigator or other senior staff

Required Competencies:

  • PhD preferred, or someone with a master’s degree in a relevant field with minimum 3-5 years’ experience in health research
  • Strong working knowledge of mixed methods research 
  • Working knowledge of relevant data analysis software and advanced computer skills (e.g. SPSS, SAS, etc.) 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact competently and professionally in a variety of settings, both orally and written (in English)
  • Capacity and competency to engage a large volume of work and competing demands/timelines with demonstrated success using organizational and time management skills to ensure project deadlines are met
  • Ability to anticipate needs, work independently with minimal supervision
  • Exercise sound judgment in analyzing and evaluating data
  • Ability to facilitate consensus in a team.
  • Professional, friendly, enthusiastic and respectful

 Preferred Competencies

  • Bilingualism (French & English) would be considered an asset
  • Project management skills
