Function Summary 

Under the responsibility of the Director, Information Systems, the Manager, Applications is responsible for the management of the applications staff within the Information Systems Department. The applications staff assists users in the selection, implementation and maintenance of information systems.

The Manager, Applications is responsible for the management of approximately 60 information systems, incorporating users throughout the Bruyère Continuing Care organization. These applications are used by approximately 2,000 users at three sites. The major systems in the organization are used for patient registration, documentation, staff scheduling, payroll and human resources, pharmacy management, finance and food services management. This includes three Electronic Patient Record (EPR) systems used for in-patient care, family medicine clinics and long-term care.

The role of the Manager, Applications is to:

  • Direct the applications staff with a sound knowledge of both technology and business processes 
  • Provide applications project management expertise: initiation, planning, scope definition and control, schedule development, quality and risk management, change control, performance monitoring, project closeout 
  • Work closely with user community to help them understand and define their objectives, and subsequently document their requirements 
  • Establish and communicate procedures and guidelines for the applications staff 
  • Build and maintain a strong team and ensure that problems are well understood, effectively managed and resolved.

Required Qualifications

  • Four (4) year university degree in a relevant discipline 
  • Experience in and knowledge of information systems 
  • Five (5) of progressive management and leadership experience preferably in a health care setting
  • Familiarity with relational database design and programming languages/databases 
  • Advanced computer and applications knowledge skills 
  • Experience supporting and implementing an electronic patient record (e.g. MEDITECH, TELUS Practice Solutions, PointClickCare) (preferred) 
  • Experience in project management (preferred)
