In May 2020 we launched a first of its kind recruitment effort for Bruyère to expedite the application and selection process for the large number of clinical and support roles that we have available at EBH and SVH.


Today we are re-opening the application for a period of 48 hours, from June 29, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. to July 1, 2020 at 8:59 a.m. Applications received during this period will be considered on time for the remaining position as well as any new vacancies. Responses received after the deadline will be considered if positions remain to be filled after all on-time applications have been considered.

Position Descriptions

 
Food Service Attendant (Elisabeth-Bruyère and Saint-Vincent Hospital)
The Food Service Attendant accomplishes the general tasks of Food Services, more specifically those tasks associated with food cart cleaning, dishwashing machine loading and unloading, the runner as well as the preparation of food trays. The incumbent will be required to work at an average temperature of approximately 14 degrees C.
 
Required Qualifications: 
  • Secondary school diploma
  • Food handler's course from a recognized institution
  • Ability to perform activities requiring considerable standing, walking, ending, reaching, pulling/pushing and transferring equipment
  • Fluent in French and English is required for some positions
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to demonstrate a respectful, patient and compassionate behaviour towards patients/residents
  • Capacity to provide a quality client-centered service

Food Service Attendant (Elisabeth-Bruyère Residence)
The Food Service Attendant performs general tasks as assigned by Food Services, such as meal preparation and service to the patients and residents, dining room preparation, and cleaning duties.
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Secondary school diploma.
  • Valid Food handler's certificate from a recognized institution.
  • Food Service Attendant certificate from a recognized college.
  • Ability to perform activities requiring considerable standing, walking, bending, reaching, pulling/pushing and transferring equipment and material.
  • Fluent in French and English is required for some positions
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification (CPR) – level C.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Housekeeping Attendant 
The incumbent performs cleaning functions, including cleaning of offices, of patient’s room, washrooms and other areas, washing floors, cleaning sinks, and general housekeeping duties. He/she may be occasionally required to strip, wax, polish floors and clean carpets.
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of grade 10 secondary school
  • Fluent in French and English is required for some positions
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of hygiene and cleanliness and infection control standards
  • Ability to perform heavy work: moving furniture, etc.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques
  • Ability to perform activities requiring considerable standing, bending, reaching, pushing and transferring material
  • Fluent in French and English is preferred for some positions
 
Meal Helper
The Meal Helper is responsible for feeding and assisting patients at meal time and to complete other related duties, as required.  
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Valid cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Basic Life Support (BLS) Level C certificate.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate a respectful and compassionate behavior towards the patients/residents.
  • Ability to remain calm.
  • Fluent in French and English is required for some positions
Personal Care Attendant
The Personal Care Attendant functions as a member of the Nursing Team.  Provides/administers care according to the policies, procedures and standards of the Bruyère Continuing Care. 
 
Required Qualifications: 
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.  
  • Patient Care Attendant course approved by the Ontario Ministry of Universities and Colleges (650 hrs course preferred). 
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Level C certificate
  • Fluent in French and English is required for some positions
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a hospital setting.
  • Fluent in French and English is preferred for some positions
Porter
Under the direction of the Clinical Manager, the incumbent will provide portering services and general support to the unit as required according to the policies, procedures and standards of Bruyère Continuing Care in a safe, timely, efficient, and courteous manner. The incumbent functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and support team. 
 
Required Qualifications: 
  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
  • Fluent in French and English is required for some positions
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to work autonomously.  Valid Basic Life Support (BCLS) cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) level C certificate.
  • Knowledge of Safe Patient Transfers Program.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to a changing work environment.
  • Ability to actively and effectively collaborate with the members of the interdisciplinary team.  Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) trained.
  • Proven, excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Fluent in French and English is preferred for some positions
 Registered Practical Nurse
As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) at Bruyère Continuing Care delivers safe, effective, patient/resident-centered, ethical and evidence-based nursing care to patients/residents according to scope of practice and in accordance with Bruyère Continuing Care policies, procedures and standards and with the College of Nurses of Ontario standards. The RPN communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing with patients/residents, families, colleagues and other health discipline members.
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Valid certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • College diploma from accredited Practical Nursing Program (2 year program).
  • Valid cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Basic Life Support (BLS) Level C certificate.
  • Fluent in French and English is required for some positions
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in rehabilitation, complex continuing care or, palliative care. 
  • Superior communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.  
  • Superior leadership and decision-making skills.  
  • Dedicated towards professional growth. Ability to work autonomously. Valid Basic. 
  • Membership in Registered Practical Nurses' Association of Ontario (RPNAO).

Registered Nurse
As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the role of the Registered Nurse (RN) at Bruyère Continuing Care is to deliver safe, effective, patient/resident-centered, ethical, and evidence-based nursing care. The overall function of the RN is to assist patients/residents and their families to manage clinical conditions and transitions and maximize their self-care, psychosocial, spiritual, communicative and interpretive abilities. The RN also acts as a resource for members of the care team.  
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Valid certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) cardiopulmonary (CPR) Level C certificate.
  • Fluent in French and English is required for some positions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in rehabilitation nursing, complex continuing care or , palliative care.  
  • Assessment skills course.
  • Membership in Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO).
  • Fluent in French and English is preferred for some positions.

Rehabilitation Assistant
Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the rehabilitation assistant supports the unit by assisting the registered therapists with patient care, maintaining a clean and efficient working area and assisting with departmental support. All the activities of the rehabilitation assistant are delegated and directed by the registered therapist.
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Diploma of 12 month's duration from a recognized college including both the Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy components.
  • Ability to perform activities requiring considerable standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing, transferring of patients and equipment.
  • Sensitivity to the needs and capabilities of the Bruyère Continuing Care patient population.Knowledge of Safe Patient Transfers Program.
  • Fluent in French and English is required for some positions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to work autonomously and able to actively and effectively collaborate with the members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Flexibility, ability and innovation in practice in a continuously changing environment.

Ward Clerk
The Ward Clerk will provide administrative support and clerical services to the patient care unit which ensures smooth efficient running of the unit by acting in the capacity of the resource centre and thereby facilitating and promoting an environment conductive to continuous quality patient centered care for the unit/program. This position reports to the designated Clinical Manager within the specific unit/program.
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Secondary school diploma, or equivalent.
  • Medical Terminology or Ward Clerk course or equivalent (equivalency must include medical terminology course).
  • Ability to transcribe medical orders.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as word processing, electronic mail, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Fluent in French and English is required for some positions.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Clerical/secretarial skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with the public.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
