Position Descriptions

 
Registered Practical Nurse
The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team. He/she provides care which is safe, effective, resident-centered, ethical, and evidence-based to residents that are predictable, stable and have low levels of complexity. Within their scope of practice and in accordance with organizational policies, procedures and standards and with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) practice standards, the RPN supports residents and their families to receive care which promotes the resident’s quality of life, optimal autonomy and maximize their self-care.
 
Required Qualifications: 
  • Certification of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • RPN medication administration certification
  • Valid cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Basic Life Support (BLS) Level C certificate
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures related to administration of medication, gavage and sterile techniques
  • Fluent in French and English is required
 Preferred Qualifications:
  • Membership in relevant professional associations (e.g. RPNAO)
  • Experience and/or certification in geriatrics or Long Term Care
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) and/or P.I.E.C.E.S. certification
  • Ability to work with physically frail elderly and with residents in dementia care
  • Ability to use a computer
  • Ability to write observations coupled with resident assessment skills and critical thinking
  • Knowledge of PointClickCare and eMARs
  • Strong abilities for communication, organizational and interpersonal and problem solving skills
  • Dedicated towards professional growth
Patient Care Attendant
The role of the Patient Care Attendant is to provide all aspects of care to residents as assigned by the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) and Registered Nurse (RN). The Health Care Aide plays a supportive role in the functioning of the unit and provides care to support residents quality of life and autonomy.
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Patient Care Attendant course approved by the Ontario Ministry of Universities and Colleges (650 hrs course preferred).
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Level C certificate
  • Experience working with elderly and/or adults affected by loss of autonomy or by chronic or terminal illness.
  • Fluent in French and English is required
 Preferred Qualifications 
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) trained
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention trained
  • Relevant certifications related to Supporting Persons with Responsive Behaviours
  • Ability to work with cognitively impaired elderly
  • Ability to write observations and to use an electronic documentation system
  • Ability to communicate with other team members
  • Strong abilities for communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Motivated for personal growth and ongoing learning
