LOCATION:

KEY FUNCTION:

The CHAMP Patient Portal with Virtual Visit functionality was recently implemented and requires ongoing design, and support. In this role you will collaborate with stakeholders at CHAMP hosptials to plan, design, implement the Meditech Patient Portal. Respond to all patient and stakeholder inquiries related to the Patient portal. Provide content expertise, hands-on application dictionary support, and assist in defining best practices with the interdisciplinary team members supporting MEDITECH at CHAMP sites.
 

REPORTING:

Under the direction of the Manager, Applications and Operations
 
 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • First line of general support (including technical) for all inquiries related to the recent CHAMP Patient Portal implementation.
  • Responding to patient questions about patient portal.
  • Communicating/working with with HIM support staff/other key hospital department staff QCH and at other CHAMP hospitals to respond to patient queries related to the patient portal.
  • Review the record for the purpose of coding diagnoses, complications, and procedures, and other required information to satisfy CIH, MOH and Hospital requirements.
  • Extract and summarize pertinent data from the record and electronically abstract this data for use in the assessment of resource utilization and reporting to MOH.
  • Work closely with the Health Information Analyst and other coding staff in the formulation of current coding lists and statistical reports based on captured data.
  • Become familiar with the available abstracting module and make suggestions for edits or enhancements to ensure that comprehensive and accurate data is captured.
  • Liaise with physicians, nurses and paramedical staff to ensure timely and accurate completion of the record, thus enabling comprehensive data capture.
  • Achieve or exceed departmental and hospital approved productivity, safety, economical and quality standards
  • Assist with the education of Health Record Practitioners, instruct and evaluate students on practices related to departmental policies and procedures and the HIM job function.
  • Communicate with all who have a need to know in a timely and prompt manner on matters relating to workload.
  • Receive, assess, correct and respond to complaints from clients.Demonstrates values: accountability, innovation and respect
 

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Certification and membership with the Canadian College of Health Information Management Professionals
 

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 3 years of Health Records experience in ICD10 and CCI coding and abstracting in an electronic environment
 

PREFERRED:

  • Communication in English & French essential
  • NACRS Emergency Coding experience
  • Thorough knowledge of the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and the Public Hospital’s Act with respect to Release of Information
  • Have strong interpersonal communication skills, oral and written
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy
  • Knowledge of MS Word and Excel and automated CPI/ADT
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to work under pressure with deadlines
  • Exhibits corporate values of respect, accountability and innovation
 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to work as member of a project team and prioritize multiple initiatives.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical/financial processes and workflow within a health care environment.
  • Proven ability to evaluate the severity of issues, recommend solutions and escalate where necessary.
  • Demonstrated excellent presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated training, experience or utilization of lean methodology for process improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement.
  • Demonstrated excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software, e.g. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
  • Demonstrated discretion and maturity when handling confidential information.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients.
 

PERSONAL SUITABILITY:

  • Demonstrated ability to work flexible hours to support project requirements.
  • Ability to work out of central CHAMP project office.
  • Ability to travel as required to CHAMP partner hospitals.
